Teachers

About us

All our teachers and assistants have qualified and been trained by the Sivananda organization world wide. It is for this reason that the principle teaching policies and practices, as well as the order of teaching followed by our teachers are fundamentally the same as those practiced by the official International Sivananda Vedanta Centers world wide.

Our teachers operate independently and are not officially affiliated with the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers world wide.

We welcome all people from all walks of life to benefit from the yogic teachings we follow and represent . We encourage a wide variety of students irrespective of age, physical ability, religion or spiritual convictions, nationality or cultural beliefs to join our practice promoting international brotherhood. We stand for “unity in diversity” and believe that this only enriches and benefits the other students as well as our teaches alike.

It is a prerequisite when attending our classes that all students (ones who are first time yoga students as well as seasoned practitioners)attend class with a open mind free of preconceived notions and expectation of both yourselves as well as the teachers. This receptiveness and mental flexibility will assist you with your physical practice enabling you to achieve maximum benefits from what is being taught.

Martin Kostir

When Martin was first drawn to the practice of yoga he was suffering chronic back pain and his strength and flexibility was yet to be discovered. His determination and commitment to the teachings of yoga lead him to embark on a journey that eventually changed his life.

He travel to India where he enrolled as a resident staff member and teacher at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram in Neyyar Dam, Kerala. He lived and worked there for over a year. He qualified as a yoga teacher and acquired a comprehensive and closely supervised training from some of the organizations most valued teachers.

Martin was exposed to many different teachers and their individual subtle differences and techniques contributed greatly to forming Martins own unique teaching style. This experience also introduced him to a variety of students who had different levels of ability and flexibility as well as those with special needs. This taught him to be flexible in his teaching and enabled him to accommodate for their varying needs while still maintaining his classes within the framework of the Sivananda yoga schedule.

During his time at the ashram Martin established a strong personal practice that he continues to maintain. This regularity in his own practice acts as the perfect base for constant personal improvement and learning. His perseverance in this has strengthened his understanding and foundations in the yogic traditions and life style.

Martins interest in human body movement with special focus in the yogic traditions and his constant yearning for self improvement brought him to Australia were he is currently studying to be an Alexander Technique teacher. In conjunction with his yogic background, the two schools of learning are extremely complimentary and provide a strong foundation in his teaching.

Amandhi De Silva

Amandhi has been practicing yoga for over ten years. During this time she explored many different schools of yoga. She was searching for a comprehensive and holistic learning experience, one that effectively integrated both the physical and the spiritual aspects of the yogic tradition.

To satisfy her inquiring mind and to establish a stronger foundation in her practice she traveled to South India where she lived intermittently at the Sivananda ashram in Neyyar Dam for six months.

She found the balance she was looking for in the philosophy and teachings of yoga according to Swami Sivananda. To enhance her personal development and understanding of Vedanta as well as to develop a greater foundation in the yogic tradition she trained and qualified as a yoga teacher.

A chef by profession she is aware of and interested in, the effects that diet and a stressful life style has on one physical and spiritual well being. After her time in the ashram she gained a greater understanding of the co relation and impact ones diet has on both the physical state as well as ones spiritual state or mind. She has also learned the benefit of the daily practice of meditation and the positive effects it can have on ones life.

While her current focus is mainly on the practice of both yoga asana and meditation, she is aspiring to establish yoga classes for children in the near future.
