Description The Beginners course is suitable for people with no knowledge of yoga and/or for people who are not familiar with the Sivananda yoga style. Its purpose is to provide each student with the essential knowledge required to establish their own personal practice as well as an opportunity to integrate this practice into their daily life. Each class of the course will introduce new postures and techniques as well as repeat and perfect those learned previously. By the end of the course students would have been introduced to the general Sivananda style class and will be ready either to continue with the more advanced classes or to maintain their own personal practice. All classes follow the same structure. This enables students to benefit from the complimenting and balancing effects of each posture, as well as remember the sequence of postures easily. Each session starts with a short relaxation and opening chant to prepare the body and mind for the yoga class, followed by breathing techniques. To prepare the muscles and joints and minimize risk of any injury caused by over stretching, warm up exercises precede the series of 12 yoga postures (Asana). The asanas are selected in such a way, that the spine is stretched in every direction. The sequence of the postures not only complement each other but also provides for a smooth transition between one posture and the next. The asana sequence is followed by a Final relaxation which is an integral part of the class and the class is concluded with a closing chant. |
